This product consists of 1/2 Dozen or 1 Dozen Olive Eggers. Some of the eggs will be f1 olive Eggers, meaning they come from a blue or brown egg. The rest of the egg will be a shade of green and backcrossed to a marans or other dark laying rooster. By crossing back to a dark laying rooster, the olive color will be enhanced and create a deeper olive, or sometimes a golden or gray olive depending on the bloom. There is also a chance of another backcross that consists of a dark brown laying hen crossed back to an olive egger rooster. Unfortunately, with any backcross there is a 50 percent chance of the offspring laying an olive egg and a 50 chance of the offspring laying a brown egg. To create an olive egger, a chick must receive one copy of the blue egg gene and one copy of the brown egg gene. This is done in the first generation. When backcrossed, the brown layer will always contribute a brown gene, and the olive egger has a 50 percent chance of passing on the blue gene, resulting in the olive color. With each backcross, the olive color is deepened until it is almost Cocoa. We don't have any of those here yet, but that is the goal. Most of the backcrosses will be back cross 1(BC1) with a few Back-Cross 2 (BC2). if you want guaranteed all green layers, you will need to purchase our F1 olive Eggers.
